‘Podcast’ word of the year
“Podcast” has been named 2005’s Word of the Year by editors of the New Oxford American Dictionary.

Its definition, to be included in an online update to the dictionary early next year, is “a digital recording of a radio broadcast or similar program, made available on the Internet for downloading to a personal audio player.”

Runners up include other topical terms like “bird flu,” “IED” (improved explosive device), “lifehack,” “persistent vegetative state” and “sudoku.” See the full list on this press release.
